Lyrics set to a melody may be the shortest route between the head and the heart. Brought to life by a beautiful and expressive voice, a song is hard to resist. The ballad “Life Is” was written by Adrian Fogelin, a Tallahassee novelist and half of the musical duo Hot Tamale, but the song has rarely been performed by the duo. Perhaps this song, which captures life, from the mundane, such as “learning to ride a bike,” to the transcendent, such as “finding the only one,” was just waiting for the right voice to sing it.
Although the song was written in 2016, that voice did not come along until the song was recorded on May 10, 2021 by Therese Whichello, a talented singer, pianist, and vocal teacher. Alone at her piano, Therese pours her whole heart into the song that strives to put its arms around life, the mysterious journey all of us are traveling.
We offer this video/poem/song to the world with hopes that maybe, just maybe, it will make the world a kinder, wiser, and more loving place.
